World Mitochondrial Disease Week

17 September 2025

This week, 15th-21st September, is World Mitochondrial Disease Week.

Cognition Land and Water’s chosen charity for the year is The Lily Foundation, a leading UK charity dedicated to fighting mitochondrial disease. Mitochondrial Disease, or ‘mito’, is a rare, complex and difficult-to-diagnose genetic disorder that affects people in very different ways. When a person has Mitochondrial Disease, the mitochondria in the cells do not produce enough energy leading to serious health complications. It can affect any organ at any age and often occurs in babies and young children. This devastating condition currently has no cure, but great developments are being made.

The Lily Foundation is the largest charitable funder of mitochondrial research in Europe. They support families affected by mitochondrial disease, fund critical research, and work to raise awareness of this condition. Cognition Land and Water is proud to have recently hosted a charity fundraising event, ‘Carbon Neutral from London to Paris’, in support of the great work The Lily Foundation is doing in the fight against mitochondrial disease.

If you would also like to support this great cause and find out more about what The Lily Foundation does, please visit their website: https://www.thelilyfoundation.org.uk/

Alternatively, Cognition’s JustGiving fundraising page is still active, where you can make a donation to The Lily Foundation: https://www.justgiving.com/team/cognition-land-and-water-fundraiser?utm_medium=TE&utm_source=CL
