School Visit at Ironbridge Phase 3 Site

7 October 2025

On 1st October, the Ironbridge Phase 3 site hosted a group of school students, giving them an introduction to the exciting world of construction and ground engineering. The children engaged in a variety of activities including a talk on Cognition’s works at Ironbridge from our Operations Director, Charlie Jarvis, and an explanation on the operation of the excavators from our Health and Safety Co-Ordinator, Mike Honeyman, and our Health and Safety Manager, Jake Johnston.

To top off their experience, Thomas Plant kindly donated two mini excavators and a Volvo EC220 excavator, giving the children the chance to climb inside and explore them. To ensure the children’s safety, our site team created bespoke steps to allow safe access onto the EC220. The children were sent home with goody bags to help them remember their day out on a real construction site.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to making the day go so smoothly!

Cognition Land and Water is delivering a comprehensive package of works designed to unlock this significant brownfield site for future development, in partnership with Harworth Group plc. Our scope of works includes:

  • Extensive site clearance and vegetation removal
  • Demolition and excavation of deep foundations (some up to 16 metres below ground levels)
  • Complex groundwater management and dewatering systems in areas of deep obstruction removal
  • Material screening, crushing, and re-use to minimise off-site disposal
  • Engineered fill of site won soils for future development platforms

Thank you to Harworth Group for introducing us to this opportunity – it was a very rewarding experience for all the team!
