Cognition Land and Water is very proud to have contributed to Taylor Woodrow’s ‘Plan & Pitch Project’. The programme saw Year 9 students at Lift Academy reimagine their playground over 12 weeks, with the guidance of expert-led workshops. The winning design concept was built this summer by the Meridian Water team and supply chain partners. Cognition was responsible for the site clearance, hard standing breakout/removal and earthworks to enable the redevelopment of the area in the student’s image.
On the 7th of July, the Cognition team visited Aylward Academy to assess the site and see what works needed to be carried out. We commenced work the following week, starting with fencing off the intended working area and setting up relevant signage. We then used a 14T excavator to carefully knock down six trees and dig out roots, which were put into a 40-yard skip, and dug out muck creating a stockpile for later disposal. Once we dug a meter down, we had 8-wheelers remove four truckloads of muck away and trees. We then excavated the area to the required levels set out by a Taylor Woodrow Engineer. Once levels were met, we used a 130 bomag to compact the soils. The levels were then checked again by a Taylor Woodrow Engineer. Once we finished, the working area was tidied up, and the plant was removed in preparation for the next stage of the playgrounds’ development.
The completed playground was unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Lift Academy on Monday 29th September. Delegates from Cognition attended the ceremony and were thrilled to hear how much the playground has meant to the students and the community. As we were involved in the very early stages of the playground’s development, it was great to see the finished product, which was only made possible through the collaborative effort of the Meridian Water team and supply chain.
Well done to the very talented students at Lift Academy that dreamed up this playground’s design and thank you to Taylor Woodrow for allowing us to be a part of this amazing project!
