On behalf of our client, St William Homes, Cognition Land and Water has been delivering a comprehensive package of enabling and remediation works at King’s Road Park, Phase 4, in Fulham. Our scope includes pile mat construction, anchored sheet piling, multi-level basement excavation, historical tar tank removal and contamination remediation on this highly constrained former Fulham Gasworks site.
We have made fantastic progress on the project, successfully removing approximately 7,700 m³ of the 30,000m3 total material scheduled to be removed from the site. Of the material removed, 4,000m³ of it is made up of concrete from buried structures, which we put through a crusher to produce 6F2 material. This has been reused on site in the construction of Pile Mats, with the remaining 3,700m³ of material removed for reuse offsite.
Cognition is pleased to share that we have completed two-thirds of the pile mat construction on site. Last Friday, we removed a large Cell Tower giving us access to the full Pile Mat footprint. This development will facilitate our completion of the remaining Pile Mat construction over the coming weeks.
Recently, we’ve been working closely with our client on the historical gas holder. Cognition has been assisting in drawing water samples from inside the gas holder. Unable to access the water from the edge, we had one of our operatives go up in a man-rider attached to a crane. He then hung the pump from the man-rider into the deepest accessible section of water to gather the necessary samples.
Odour management is a key element of our works, and a constant consideration for our client, owing to the nature of the site and the historical use of the land. Cognition is implementing an odour management strategy to minimise our impact on the local community. This is done by controlled excavations and aided with atomisers, foam and boundary mist systems.
This Tuesday marked the beginning of our Sheet Piling works — a major milestone in the project’s progression. With careful planning, collaboration, and teamwork, Cognition will deliver a five-week programme to install 260m of sheet piles.
Once the sheet piles are installed, the team will excavate down to formation level and construct the anchor pile mat. Our specialist anchor contractors will then follow on to install ground anchors into the sheet piles, reducing deflection along the pile wall. Following installation of the anchors, Cognition will complete the basement excavation and install the third and final pile mat.
We are thrilled with the progress we have made so far on this exciting and complex project - a testament to the hard work and professionalism of the entire site team!
