On Thursday 15th January 2026, Cognition was honoured to welcome the founder of The Lily Foundation, Liz Curtis, to our office in London for a charity cheque presentation. Cognition held our ‘Carbon Neutral from London to Paris’ charity fundraising event last September, which raised money for The Lily Foundation, a leading UK charity dedicated to fighting mitochondrial disease.
We presented Liz with a £18,000 charity cheque representative of the amount we raised for the charity thanks to all the generous supporters of our fundraiser. We had a very informative conversation with Liz about mitochondrial disease, the charity’s origins and their future plans – we look forward to seeing all that this great charity will achieve in the fight against mitochondrial disease!
Cognition’s ‘Carbon Neutral from London to Paris’ fundraising event was held from 5th to 7th September 2025. It saw participants make their way from London to Paris using sustainable, carbon-neutral methods, be it cycling, walking, running etc. We had a daring team of cyclists successfully and safely conquer the entire distance from London to Paris. Cognition wanted to make the challenge inclusive of different fitness levels and preferences consequently, we had additional groups of walkers and runners embark on their desired length of the distance from London to Paris over that weekend. Collectively, the participants who took on a leg of the challenge, travelled the full distance from London to Paris.
Cognition would like to once again share a massive thank you to anyone who donated to and/or participated in ‘Carbon Neutral from London to Paris’ – the money we raised will really help support the amazing work that The Lily Foundation does.
The Lily Foundation supports families affected by mitochondrial disease, funds critical research, and works to raise awareness of this devastating condition. Mitochondrial disease affects the body’s ability to produce energy, leading to serious health complications. It currently has no cure, but great advancements are being made. It is a cause very near and dear to our hearts as a member of our team suffers from the condition. Mitochondrial dysfunction has been identified as a key factor in other more common diseases including dementia, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy and cancer. The research that The Lily Foundation funds and supports not only holds promise for individuals with mitochondrial disorders but has the potential to benefit millions of others too.
The Lily Foundation has amazing plans to help those affected by mitochondrial disease this year and into the future. If you want to support this awe-inspiring charity, you can visit their website to find out more and donate: www.thelilyfoundation.org.uk
