On to the Next Phase: Progressing Works at Kimmerfields Bus Station, Swindon

4 February 2026

In October 2025, Cognition was awarded an enabling works package as part of the redevelopment of an old bus station in Swindon town centre. We are proud to announce that we have now been awarded the next phase of this project by our client, Swindon Borough Council. We have now mobilised to site progressing the transformation of this key area of the town and paving the way for subsequent phases of the Swindon regeneration scheme.

Cognition’s responsibilities on this project include:

  • Management of pre-construction activities, approvals, and statutory notifications
  • Development and implementation of temporary works and protection measures
  • Coordination and management of asbestos removal in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Provision of safe access, segregation, and site controls for demolition activities
  • Soft strip and preparation of structures for demolition
  • Demolition of existing buildings and structures within the site boundary
  • Removal of hardstanding, paving, and associated external works as required
  • Processing, handling, and management of demolition arisings, including on-site reuse where permitted
  • General groundworks associated with demolition, including void filling and surface levelling
  • Progressive removal of temporary works and protection measures
  • Site clearance, demobilisation, and handover upon completion

The BBC recently released an article about this site titled “'Long overdue' demolition begins on bus station”. The article includes discussions about future plans for the site and fabulous candid shots featuring Cognition plant.
